Vampire the Redemption

Ah, you've decided to venture into the past... Welcome into one of my favourite domains of dreams and fantasies...

Vampire the Redemption tells tragic tale of Christof Romulad and his undying love for Anezka. Christof is a crusader and she a nun, so from the beginning, their love is not sanctioned by the Church. But it becomes worse as Christof is Embraced into the Brujah clan and she abducted...

You can find a few detailed walkthroughs online. I'll link to my preferred ones at the end of the section instead of writing a full walkthrough. Instead, I'll present my best strategy hints and hints to the most important secrets of the game.

Hints

How to make playing this game a bit easier...

  • Visibility: Play the game at night. The lighting is crappy because everything takes place at night. Also, playing this game in a dark room late at night increases the enjoyment.
  • Awe: Lure the enemy close one by one and use Awe to keep them still, then drink them. Works from the beginning of Christofs life as a vampire. Increase his rank in Awe to three and his feeding to three to increase the speed by which he feeds - to avoid standing around while other monsters start hitting on you.
  • Do it alone: If you are entering a room and hope to lure the monsters one by one, leave your companions behind!
  • Quickslots: Arrange your discipline quickslots in such a way that Christof and Wilhelm both have Awe in the same slot. Keep Awaken in a handy slot once you get it. Add Theft of Vitae to the quickslots as soon as you get it.
  • Theft of Vitae: Use Theft of Vitae when you get it - have a high rating in it as soon as possible. 4 dots is enough to empty just about any mortal and most vampires in one sip. Very satisfying!
  • Feeding: While in Prague, go to the monastery whenever you feel thirsty. Never kill the monks, just drink about 2/3 from each of them.
  • Equipment: Hand Serena the Femur, let her identify it and keep it until the final level of Castle Vyserad. It is a good close-combat weapon for a person of her rather limited strength.
  • Items: Magical items can be transported to the modern time with you if placed on Christof before the final battle in Castle Vyserad. Having just one shot left in the Ivory Bow means you'll have a very nice treasure to sell in the modern world... and money is sooo nice. Some of your favourite magical items are irreplaceble in a modern world... but you'll love the armor.

Secrets of the game

The stuff I was having a hard time with myself and the important treasures.

Lair of the Cappadocians

One of the first missions that has a few secrets is the visit to the Cappadocian lair under the monastery. I love to visit the monks...

The first level is a good chance for you to learn to use Awe and the lure-technique. If you need a backup, Wilhelm will help you - but when trying to lure monsters one by one, leave him behind in safety.

Before leaving level 2, you need to find this small altar - just opposite to the doubledoors leaving the level - and press the switch.

That will open up a new room, just beside the doors to the next level.

Inside the new room is a bit of treasure, most importantly the Femur of Tzimisce.

Another switch is found in the floor at level 3, as far from the beginning of the level as you can go.

Behind the doors opened by this switch is a bone key, which opens the door to Garinols study.

Tunnels of the Nosferatu

In the tunnels of the Nosferatu are two important switches. One is the switch in the first level, which opens a small room behind you - a boobytrapped treasure and bit of a fight.

At the second level of the Nosferatu tunnels is a secret door, which will only be revealed by using Heightened Senses.

Behind the door hides an Eye of Gangrel...

... and a Tome of Animalism. Both are nice to have.

The second switch is actually a set of switches in the final haven beyond Caines riddle. There are two switches to open and close the gates - but just inside the gates is an easily overlooked switch, which opens up a small treasure room just beneath the stairs ahead. Until I found this switch, I was sorely frustrated, running all through the haven over and over again to find some way to open up the door to the treasure. It is tormenting to be able to see the treasure, but not even be able to see that there is a door. Only when using Heightened Senses do the bars present themselves as a door and let you know that "this door is opened elsewhere". Frustrating!

Ardans Chantry

Near the stairs leading down to the second floor of Ardans Chantry - I love that setting, by the way - is a small room which contains the Ivory Bow. Get it!!! Aggrevated damage and ranged too... but only 20 shots, so save it unless you really need it. And don't use the last shot. Keep it...

Beware of the mages in the room just on top of the stairs down to the second level. There are five regents in the room and they can be hard to lure. Take them on one by one, using Awe and ignore the fireballs. When a subject is in Awe, you should have time to heal once or twice before starting to feed. But entering frenzy is a problem, if you are alone. Entering a room of five Regents without luring them is a bigger problem, though.

The first room of the second floor contains a book... one charge, no effect. I think it is a bug and it was intended as a tome of magic. Likewise, in the second room of the second floor you'll find a scroll - absolutely empty! But you'll also find the much wanted tome of Blood Magic. Yippee!

The third room of the second floor contains the prisoners and Ardans Manifest. Ah, plotitem! Next quest is going to be...

Now you'ld think you'ld be able to go on, since you've freed the prisoners and found the manifest, but no, you need to go fight Ardan himself. Oh, well, one more dead Tremere!

Wienna

Once you reach Wienna, you need to find your new haven. Fortunately, you are standing right outside a door presenting itself as Church Haven. But going inside does not initially reveal the now familiar trappings of a haven. A barren floor. Ah, but there is a switch, which will reveal that the floor can be moved, revealing a flight of stairs down to the real haven.

Stephansdom

You'll be climbing the houses of Inner Stadt to reach the insides of the church. And that is not as hard as it sound - just look for the only door you can open in Inner Stadt and climb the stairs. Go through the window and look for the clock. Click on the ledge just outside the clock - your characters will find their own way. Now enter through the secret door. Yes, that means I forgot to take screenshots...

Once you are inside, it becomes day. This is one of the hardest missions to complete, because it is not possible to go back to your haven or go shopping for supplies. You are essentially stuck with what you bring with you - unless you use the "vault" cheat... I recommend it, as you might elsehow have to leave treasure behind. It is going to be a long walk...

You need to learn to navigate in a way that keeps your group out of the sun. This is easiest when you move them individually, so it is time to click the small green gems near each character and take them, one by one, towards safety. I always take Christof first. When forced to pass through sunlight, I use Celerity for Christof and Wilhelm to move faster and decrease the amount of burndamage. Serena and Eric use their Fortitude. After each move through sun, I heal up. If you are using the lure-and-awe technique, Christof is already going to be quite full of blood and can gain more as he removes the guards on the way, one by one.

When you've gone through the sun, you'll reach an area under the clockwork - a dangerous passage. You'll need to use Celerity and timing to avoid getting your character crushed, but once the first character reaches the other side, he/she can turn of the clockwork by pressing the switch.

Under the clockwork is the second tome of knowledge - the Tome of Domination.

Aftea lot of Lasombra Ghouls, the next puzzle is entering the second level of Stephansdom, which requires finding the right combination of switches to flick.

Entering the third level of the church also has a bit of a puzzle attached, but... the mirror opposite the switches reveal the combination.

In the chamber of paintings you'll find a Heartshield in one of the corners ajacent to the next room - but picking it up is almost certain to alert one or more of the inhabitants next door.

Refusing to kill Luther Black will give you +10 humanity. But if you accept to help Luther Black leave this world, you need to let the sun in. To do this you need to ascend the stairs and then touch one switch, then another within 5 seconds. Celerity is necessary.

Teutonic Knights

You will soon find out that lure-awe-feed does not work on persons in full armor... but if you've got level 4 of Theft of Vitae by now, then this dungeon will be easy. Just let Christof take the lead alone and whenever he encounters one of the pesky cans of tuna, he'll pour the content out in one sip... Ah! Very satisfying!

Cheats

My favourite cheat-codes... the rest can be found in other walkthroughs.

  • Vault: Typing vault in the console window opens the vault of your favourite haven. Very useful when your inventory is filling up.
  • Advancement: Typing advancement in the console window allows you to use experiencepoints. Very useful on long missions without access to a haven.
  • Haven: Typing jump haven in the console window will instantly transport you to your haven, if it is available. NB! It is not available during the first two quests in Wienna!
